As a busy Birmingham mom, you already have enough on your plate. You work so hard taking care of your family, the house, the dog, your career, and everything else in between. You have to dress your kids every day, so when it comes time to take new family photos, this part of the process feels like a chore.
Part of my session planning process is styling your session, which includes access to my client wardrobe and guidance on what everyone in your family should wear for the session. You want to look and feel your best during your portrait session without any of the stress. Long after the session, you want to look at your portraits on the wall and feel they are timeless. We don’t want your clothes to take away the attention from your beautiful family or even look dated. Yes, children and families grow, but your clothes can have a timeless effect in your portraits.
Here are some things to keep in mind about what you should wear for family photos and how full-service family photography can help ease this stress.
Classic color palettes
Certain colors are timeless and never go out of style, such as crisp white, blush, beige, light blue, and soft pinks. If you do decide to go with a pattern, try to choose one that is dainty, classic, and not too distracting. You want the focus of your session to be your smiling faces, not the pattern of your clothing choices.
Clean lines and styles
I tend to love styles that stand the test of time and bring a touch of elegance. For kids, it’s all about keeping it stylish and comfy too, so the poses don’t look stiff and everyone is comfortable.
Little boys can wear classic cuts with a pop of fun, like a statement collar, while little girls can shine in light and airy flowy dresses with timeless features such as lace and ruffles. It’s all about making sure everyone looks good and feels great. As far as adults, men will look sharp in a simple, button-up shirt and khakis, while women look lovely and radiant in flowy dresses that look light and airy.
This is why I’m passionate about offering full-service family photography to my families. My client wardrobe has a growing collection of over 100 dresses for moms. Ranging in sizes from XS to XXL, and everything in between, there’s a perfect fit for every mom so you can feel and look your absolute best. Many of these dresses are designed to accommodate bumps and postpartum needs, making them ideal for maternity and newborn sessions.
Rest assured, every piece in the wardrobe has been thoughtfully selected to ensure it photographs beautifully. Moms love the opportunity to save time and money by choosing one of these stunning dresses for their session.
My client closet includes fantastic options for your little ones, too. Some of my personal favorite brands for these beautiful and timeless styles include Doen, Nothing Fits But, Free People, Nora Lee, Needle and Thread, BHLDN, and many more. So, when it comes to wardrobe choices, I’ve got you covered so you can focus on relaxing and looking forward to your session day instead of stressing over what to wear.
