The babymoon is long over and you are looking for a night out before baby arrives, so here are some fun Birmingham date night ideas to consider. During the third trimester, most moms’ idea of a fun night out involves a mellow vibe, some good food and maybe a special sweet treat, so below are some suggestions.
No matter what you choose — whether it’s dinner at your favorite spot, exploring a new garden, or something a little more special like a maternity photo session — the most important thing is taking time to slow down and enjoy each other before your world changes in the most beautiful way. These little moments together will become some of your sweetest memories. So go ahead, plan that date night, soak it all in, and celebrate this chapter before baby arrives.
Comforting classic French bistro fare with the best assortment of mocktails or “Sans Alcool” as they say in France. Their trout amandine is a go-to favorite and their coq au vin (or any seasonal chicken dish on the menu) is Paris-worthy. Many regulars swear they have the best hamburger in town. Be sure to make reservations for this James Beard award winning restaurant as they book out weeks in advance.

If you are craving pasta, this cozy Italian restaurant in the Edgewood neighborhood of Homewood never disappoints. This family owned restaurant run by a father and his two sons has been a Birmingham favorite for over 20 years. I love the Arthur Price paintings and murals sprinkled throughout the main dining room.
721 Broadway St. Birmingham, AL 35209
For a more casual night out, Pizza Grace (a James Beard Finalist in 2023 for Best New Restaurant) is such a popular pizza spot that they sometimes run out of dough – so get there early! After dinner you can walk next door to Cannella’s for a scoop of delicious gelato.

A local, small batch creamery with two locations – one in Homewood and the other in Avondale, Big Spoon offers artisanal ice cream featuring locally sourced and seasonal ingredients. I highly recommend their “Sammies.”

927 Oxmoor Rd Homewood, AL 35209
Check their calendar for performance dates and enjoy a musical starring local talent. Some of their students have gone on to perform on Broadway! My daughter and I saw Birmingham native and RMT graduate Jordan Fisher perform in Dear Evan Hansen on Broadway!
Historic Theater built in 1927 which hosts live music, classic movies and performing arts. It’s always such a treat to attend an event here where you will feel like you stepped back in time as you marvel at the historic interiors. Check their calendar for current events.
“Art After Five” happens one Friday a month September-April and they have several jazz musicians scheduled to perform over the summer.
A green space and a recreation center which also hosts music venues, charity walks, movie nights, and other city events.
Take a romantic stroll through the gardens and enjoy the seasonal blooms. Walk down to Jeni’s Ice Cream in Mountain Brook Village for a sweet treat afterwards.
You didn’t think I’d let you go without suggesting a maternity session, did you? Birmingham has so many beautiful spots for photos — and many are right near the restaurants, gardens, and activities I mentioned above. I usually recommend scheduling your session between 28 and 32 weeks, but really, anytime after that sweet bump has popped works perfectly. Pick out a gorgeous dress, treat yourself to hair and makeup, and let’s create some stunning images. Then head out for a date night while you’re all dressed up!
